But it was pink.
It was a really impressive pink - as vividly pink as a sissy's wildest dreams. Even so, not really our style, though it did make Xena laugh.

No worries, said Lady Fox. You can dye it a different colour. And she sent me a link to the DyeMore Synthetic range.
I should have realised! The Custom Chastity devices are all surgical nylon, so a commercial dye should do the job. (I'll bet the same dye will be able to handle a lot of other non-metallic devices, but don't take my word for it.)
I've always wanted a flesh-toned chastity cage. It's hard to explain why. I think it's because it just feels more sinister - the more natural it looks, the more it seems to be a permanent fixture.
There's a practical side too. In the event of some mishap, something that matches my skin is less likely to catch the eye - less likely than a pink chastity cage! - and easier to pass off as a medical device.
There was no skin tone, but there was a "Sandstone". So I got that from Amazon and followed the instructions: put the device plus water in a small saucepan and heated until simmering, added about a third of the bottle of dye, simmered for 30 minutes. Then I put it through the dishwasher.
Here's the result (it's me wearing the device, so behind the cut - Xena has locked me up for several days, and I didn't get a chance to take a snap of my handiwork first.)

It's a bit more of me than I'd normally show, but I wanted to give a sense of how... unobtrusive the end result is. A close up tends to make dick and device seem massive, like the caged elephant in the room, whereas this is supposed to achieve the exact opposite.
The dye took very well on the pink cage, less well on the faded black ring, which went a kind of deep leather colour.
I quite like the two tone effect! It goes with the dark pubic area and pinker penis. Xena hasn't made up her mind yet, so I may yet get the charcoal black, which I think would have given an even finish: clearly dye will take things darker, but not lighter.
If I'd known it was this easy, I would have asked for every device Lady Fox sent me to come in plain white! There are all sorts of tempting colours.
This also means it's possible to further customise the device with a craft knife or file, then re-dye it to get the professional effect.
Finally, my black devices have tended to fade, perhaps because I use a coal tar based soap. I now know how to freshen them up.
So there it is. At least on brand of dye works on Custom Chastity devices.
(Now to field test this one. At the moment, Xena has me in and out of lockup because it's summer and we keep having visitors. When she does settle to a marathon, I'm not sure how long I'll be locked up. My record of 24/7 lockup is 40 days. That was in the standard Saint. This one is even more practical. Watch this space.)
